Our Mission
WHAT WE DO:
Our mission is to provide free veterinary care to pets of people experiencing homelessness.
WHY WE DO IT:
Our vision is a world where everyone, regardless of their housing or financial situation, has access to affordable veterinary care. We envision a future where society recognizes the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment. Through equitable, compassionate, and community-driven programs, we strive to take care of both ends of the leash and the planet we share.
Using a One Health approach to street medicine, we provide preventative veterinary care via pop-up street clinics and collaborate with community partners to offer additional services.
HOW WE DO IT:
WHERE WE ARE:
We are in 60+ locations across the U.S., and we continue to grow thanks to generous volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community partners.
WHO WE ARE:
Volunteers include veterinarians, vet techs, vet assistants, social workers, human healthcare professionals, human-animal bond advocates, and students in One Health fields of study.
WHAT WE VALUE:
Unconditional Love: Everything we do is done with love and kindness, without judgment or conditions.
Compassionate Activism: We swim upstream and endeavor to act in alignment with our principles.
Unbridled Collaboration: Our work cannot be done in a silo. We rely on supporters and community partners to help us think outside the box, complement existing resources, establish trust, walk the talk, and deliver accessible, quality care through tailored delivery models.
Trust: Trust is the foundation of this organization. We strive to authentically connect and build trust with everyone we work with and everyone we meet, on both ends of the leash.
HOW TO HELP:
Look at the leash as a lifeline, and consider donating and/or volunteering to support the lives on both ends. CLICK HERE to learn more. For a slideshow overview of SDC, click here. For a “This Is Us” info sheet, click here.
