“Maybe, like me, you have wondered why someone who was experiencing homelessness would also have a pet. Over the last 4 years volunteering with The Street Dog Coalition, this is what I have realized: these dogs (and cats) are their family. They love, protect, and are best friends. Often times our pet parents have taken abandoned or poorly treated pets from someone else. The majority of our clients would forgo food or other necessities for themselves to get their pets what they need. These pets are often the only constant while experiencing a challenging situation. In other words, their pets mean just as much as our pets do to us”
