Sierra’s Legacy

The adage good things come in small packages describes Sierra. She was small in size but big in heart.

Anyone who met Sierra couldn’t resist her sweet face and quiet, loving personality. She radiated love.

Her memory, through Sierra’s Legacy, will continue by helping pets in need in Ithaca and honor the special dog she was.

The Impact of Sierra’s Legacy

Milo is a eight year-old Chihuahua who has an incredible bond with his person, Gwen. Gwen says that Milo knows “many, many tricks” and he is her “sweet little guy”. Milo and Gwen have been coming to Ithaca street clinics since Milo was one year old, and Milo has been battling with dental disease for some time now. When he was last seen at an Ithaca Street Dog clinic, he had severe dental tartar and gingivitis, and it was clear he needed dental care that could not be provided in the street clinic setting. Through generous funding from Sierra‘s Legacy fund, Milo was able to get his dental care and get neutered. He had nine teeth extracted and did very well. Both his dental care and his neuter procedure will be instrumental in improving and maintaining Milo’s quality of life. Way to go, Milo! And thank you, Sierra!

Catherine Cortright, DVM

Catherine is a Veterinary Internist who was inspired to help the homeless population by the work of her best friend, who started a medical practice in Ithaca focused on high risk populations. Through Dr. Waldman's outreach in the community, and inspired (pressured!) by her two young daughters to help local pet populations in need, the first Street Dog Ithaca clinic was held in the parking lot of Reach medical in 2018 and we've grown since! Dr. Cortright enjoys volunteering with Street Dog and spending time with her family when she is not working as an Internist at Colonial Animal Hospital.
